| Agra,
a colourful city retains a unique flavour of its own. Agraban, as
it was polularly known as in the Mahabharat times boats of as many
as three world heritage sites, -The Taj Mahal, Red Fort & Fatehpur
Sikri and is also home to one of the seven wonders of the world
- The Taj Mahal. During the time of the third emperor Akbar, Agra
embarked on the construction of the massive Agra Fort in 1565. Though
Akbar was diverted into building a new capital at Fatehpur sikri
not far away, Agra continued to retain its importance. After this,
Shah Jehan, Akbar's grandson ornamented the city with the Taj
Mahal and built several other beautiful buildings within
the Agra fort.
Agra also boasts of five unique shiv temples, a planned garden called
Gul-e-Afgaan, Fatehpur Sikri,
and Agra Fort that completes the package for any
traveller looking for either historic monuments, gardens or has
spiritual interests.
