in the center of a large tank, AMRIT SAROVAR, is the holiest seat
of the Sikhs- GOLDEN TEMPLE or DARBAR SAHIB.
Close by is the DURGIANA TEMPLE dedicated to Lakshmi Narayana. JALIANWALA
BAGH, a premier national monument, is dedicated to the hundreds
of martyrs who lost their lives in the massacre of 1919.
WAGAH BORDER, 30 km from Amritsar, is the international boundary
with Pakistan and the sunset ‘retreat’ ceremony is an interesting
experience. HARI-KE-PATTAN is a scenic spot that lies on the confluence
of the rivers Beas and Sutlej.
AMANAT KHAN is a quaint village close to Amritsar. It has an old
serai(inn) with a beautifully tile-decorated gateway. In close proximity
are the cities of JALANDHAR, the Radhaswami dera at BEAS, industrial
city of LUDHIANA, AMBALA and the capital, CHANDIGARH.
