Aurangabad city, BIBI KA MAQBARA also known as the “poor man’s Taj
mahal” and the historic watermill, PANCHAKKI, are worth a visit.
Moving out of the city, is the hill top fortress of DAULATABAD or
DEVAGIRI.
The 34 rock cut caves of ELLORA are the meeting point of 3 faiths
- Buddhism, Jainism and Hinduism. The 16th cave - the reknowned
KAILASH TEMPLE, is the largest monolith ever created in the world
and is a fine example of Dravidian art.
The simple austere tomb of Aurangzeb at KHUDABAD, PAITHAN on the
banks of the river Godavari, the 30 caves in the horse shoe shaped
rock gorge of AJANTA - beautiful frescoes, wall paintings and vivid
sculptures, are the finest achievements of the Buddhist monks.
Also accessible are SHIRDI, NASHIK and PITHAIKHORA CAVES.
