MASJID and JAMA MASJID are beautiful architectural monuments. SHAUKAT
MAHAL skillfully mixes design elements while GAUHAR MAHAL is a delightful
fusion of the Hindu and Mughal styles of architecture. BHARAT BHAWAN
is a unique institution- a large complex, it contains a number of
museums, art galleries and theatre. The surrounding SHAMLA and IDGAH
HILLS provide a birds eye view of Bhopal city. The UPPER and LOWER
LAKES provide boating facilities.
SANCHI, 45 km away, abounds in 3rd century Buddhist architecture
like, the stupas, monasteries, temples and pillars. The palace at
ISLAMNAGAR, 11 km away, is a marvelous example of the synthesis
of Hindu and Islamic styles.
The rock-cut cave sanctuaries at UDAIGIRI, the Heliodorus Pillar
or the Khamba Baba at VIDISHA, and the Neolithic caves at BHIMBETKA
are some of the places to visit while in Bhopal. The hill-resort
town of PANCHMARHI is also accessible from Bhopal.
