The LINGARAJ TEMPLE is one of the best preserved temples in Bhubaneshwar,
epitomizing Orissa’s temple architecture. PARSURAMESWARA TEMPLE
and MUKTESHWAR TEMPLE are the oldest surviving temples, showcasing
the mastery of the craftsmen of the era. The monument at DHAULI
commemorates Ashoka’s conversion to Buddhism.The 2 granite hills
of UDAYGIRI and KHANDAGIRI complex were originally a Jain monastery
with 33 rock-cut caves. The RAJA-RANI TEMPLE is also worth a visit.
CUTTACK, the former capital of Orissa, the famous SUN TEMPLE at
KONARK, THE Buddhist centre of RATNAGIRI, UDAIGIRI and LALITGIRI,
the largest inland brackish water lake at CHILIKA, the beautiful
sea resort of GOPALPUR-ON-SEA, the important Hindu ‘dham’ of PURI,
one of the largest National Parks of India at SIMILIPAL, are all
worth a visit when in Bhubaneshwar.
