Travel To Leh

Besides the unique and awe inspiring natural beauty of this area, there are some very beautiful and well preserved monasteries and lakes.

The HEMIS GOMPA, famous for its annual dances and thangkas. The ALCHI GOMPA, ten centuries old and covered with paintings. The oldest monastery in the region, LAMAYURU. SHEY GOMPA and PALACE, THIKSHEY GOMPA, PATHER SAHIB, the STOK PALACE MUSEUM, SHANTI STUPA, the LEH PALACE and the KALI MANDIR are some of the places to be seen in Leh.

There are many areas beyond Leh that can be accessed from here. The three main axii are- first, via KHARDUNGLA PASS, the highest motorable pass in the world, into the picturesque NUBRA VALLEY. Second, via CHANGLA PASS, to the PANGYONG TSO LAKE. And third, towards KARGIL and SRINAGAR.

There are many spectacular treks to be made to Markha Valley, Lamayuru to Darchha and others.There are many rafting stretches, including white-water rafting, on the Indus and its various tributaries.There are many challenging peaks to be climbed for the seasoned mountaineer in this area.

Ladakh Festival held every year between Sept 1-15 and the Sindhu Darshan Festival held annually between June 1-3, promote the unique culture of Ladakh. Monastic Festivals like the Hemis Tse-chu are popular for the chhams or sacred dance-dramas.

Tibetan carpets, pashmina shawls, pattu, Chilling metal work items, apricots, thangkas, the traditional head dress Perak and semi-precious stones like turquoise and corals, are some of the myriad buys to be made in Leh.
