| ASAFI
or BARA IMAMBARA has the largest vaulted chamber in the world and
is also famous for its interesting labyrinths. It also houses the
grand ASAFI MASJID. A colossal ornate gateway, the RUMI DARWAZA,
lies just outside the Imambara. The HUSSAINABAD or CHHOTA IMAMBARA,
houses tombs, chandeliers, ilded mirrors and replicas of the tombs
of Karbala.
The smallest of the three Imamabaras in Lucknow is the SHAHNAJAF
IMAMBARA, built on the banks of the river Gomti. The ruins of the
former residence of the British Resident is THE RESIDENCY.
One of the oldest buildings of Lucknow is the NANDAN MAHAL. The
best of Italian architecture is juxtaposed with the Mughal and Hindu
styles in the LA MARTINIERE SCHOOL. Some of the other places to
visit are the CLOCK TOWER, CHHATTAR MANZIL, DILKUSHA,SAADAT ALI
MAQBARA, KAISER & SIKANDER BAGH.
The sacred city of AYODHYA lies 134 km away on the banks of the
river Saryu. The KUKRAIL RESERVE FOREST, NAWABGANJ BIRD SANCTUARY
and the DUDHWA NATIONAL PARK are the accessible to the nature lover
from Lucknow.
